Christy Hughes Kairos Fund

At just 23 years of age, Christy Hughes (the daughter of Brother Knight Tom Hughes and Joann Hughes) passed away from ovarian cancer on July 19, 2013. During her time at St Monica High School she was an active participant and leader in the Kairos retreats, remaining an involved program supporter after her graduation.

To honor her memory and support the program she so dearly loved, the Hughes family created the Christy Hughes Kairos Fund at St Monica High School. Each year in July, Council #3744 encourages all Knights and their families to donate to the fund.

The following message is a note from the family:
On July 19, 2013, our daughter, Christy Frances Hughes passed away from Ovarian cancer. Throughout this difficult time, many of you shared your generosity with our family and we, once again, would like to thank you.

Shortly after, we established the “Christy Hughes Kairos Fund” through St Monica Catholic High School. The fund was set up to aid students whose families may not be able to afford the fee to attend the Kairos retreat. As of this time, St Monica High School has changed their policy of only aiding the families of eligible students, to including the cost of attending the retreat into their tuition. In light of this, we are in the process of converting the proceeds from the Kairos fund into an annual scholarship for the student recipient of the Christian Service Award. Christy was a recipient of this award, in 2009, for accumulating the most service hours of her class, during her high school years.

This year on the anniversary of her passing, we would like to ask you once again for your generosity in a donation.

The fund has been a great success since its founding and will continue to aid students on their journey in Christ’s name. Your donation will ensure the continued success of this program. It is also tax deductible.
